Marikana report court application filed

The court application to force President Jacob Zuma to release the Marikana report was filed in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) as well arrested and injured Marikana miners say the president has had enough time to consider the report and must release it immediately.

Their lawyer Andries Nkome says the application will be heard on Monday 8 June.

Meanwhile, on Monday the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (Seri) and the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) who represent 37 families of miners killed during the labour unrest wrote to Zuma to release the report.

They have subsequently written to Judge Ian Farlam to release the report on Tuesday if the president fails to adhere to their request.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Zuma announced he's still considering the report and will release it by the end of June.

Nkome and Seri says it's unfair that the president can hold on to the report for three months - the same amount of time it took Judge Ian Farlam to compile it.

Nkome says the dates on which their claims against the State prescribe is 16 August, adding they need enough time to study the report.
