Massive cuts in fuel prices announced for January
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The Energy Department has announced a massive decrease in fuel prices for January.
The latest fuel prices effective from Wednesday (4 January 2023) are:
- Both grades of petrol will decrease by R2.06 a litre.
- Diesel will decrease by between R2.68 and R2.80 a litre.
- Paraffin will decrease by R2.58 a litre at retail outlets.
- LP gas will increase by 82c per kilogram.
The Energy department’s spokesperson Robert Maake says the massive drop in fuel prices can be attributed to a decrease in the prices of international petroleum products.
The average brent crude oil prices also decreased while the Rand appreciated slightly, on average, against the US dollar.
The government will also reduce the slate levy by over 21 cents a litre.
The increase in the price of LP gas can be assigned to higher propane and butane prices during the period under review.
