Mbalula paid a visit to the South African Police Service (SAPS) call centre in Midrand on Tuesday.

“Be aware of criminals at all times, they are on guard and relentless in their efforts to render crime ungovernable in the Republic. Continue to serve our people with honesty and honour. You will be recognised.  From the Minister of Police and the former Minister of Sports who was called Razzmatazz, let’s razzmatazz them with our efforts against crime.”

He says the fight against crime cannot be borne by police officers alone.

“We are doing a fantastic job and we will intensify our operations. But we know that it is not all dependent on the police. I want to see leaders on the ground, fending fires and negotiating and we will deal with criminals.”

He says this week’s protests by community members in Coligny and Eldorado Park have been hijacked.

“What is happening in Coligny and Eldorado Park has nothing to do with the genuine concerns of the community anymore. It is drug dealers who are now hard at work doing everything to undermine law and order. We will deal with them.”
