Mchunu was speaking at an International Anti-Corruption Day event at the University of South Africa on Monday morning.

Mchunu, joined by former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela and National Prosecuting Authority head Shamila Batohi and others, signed a pledge against corruption.

The minister said those fighting against corruption needs to be as confident as those who are on the wrong side of the law.

“Let me emphasise that a fight against corruption needs to be a fight against corruption. It can’t be a massage and there’s a difference.

“A fight is a fight. After all, some of these people who commit this gain their confidence from the way they organise themselves, the way they resource themselves.”

Mchunu also moved to reassure law enforcement agencies of the support of all spheres of government to take the fight to those guilty of corruption.

“Just to ensure that the people who are in these positions understand, especially as government, we stand in a position where we look up to you to execute your tasks as if there is no other day tomorrow.

“Objectively, timely, effectively and without any fear or favour. So don’t doubt us government as you perform your tasks. Understand us to be fully behind you.”
