McKenzie made the announcement on his X profile on Tuesday,  just two weeks away from the Olympic Games which are to be held in Paris from the 26th of July to the 11th of August.

"There are athletes and artists who are struggling to raise money to attend sporting events and exhibitions, how do we justify paying for fans?" he wrote in his post.

McKenzie added that the department will no longer be paying for these trips and the money will be used where it is needed the most.

Following this statement, X-users threw jabs at Mama Joy, who has been the talking point since the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Some users were against the cancellation of trips, saying that she has dedicated her life to promoting South African sports.

One X-user said: " For many, Mama Joy represents more than just a cheerleader; she symbolizes our dreams and our unity. She carries the hope and spirit of millions who are unable to be physically present but support our teams with all their hearts."
