Metrobus strike to enter day 5
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Johannesburg commuters are set for another day of frustration as the Metrobus strike enters a fifth day.
The Labour Court reserved judgment in the city’s attempts to interdict the strike on Thursday.
Metrobus and representatives of the striking union Demawusa were meant to meet for mediation with Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on Thursday morning.
However, the company decided to head to court to get an interdict instead.
Workers are demanding a salary structure which pays employees according to the number of years an employee has worked.
The company's spokesperson Goodwill Shiburi says the meeting with CCMA was not scheduled to be a negotiation, but a rather form meeting between the two parties and a commissioner.
"Demawusa have got limited rights to bargain with the employer.
"The CCMA was not really scheduled to be a negotiation, it was just a formality between Demawsa and Metrobus in the presence of a commissioner. Due to unforeseen circumstances that meeting has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for another time."
