Dangor resigned on Friday - citing a breakdown in the relationship between him and the Minister as one of the reasons for his departure.

Dangor has only been in the position a few months - having taken up the role in November last year.

At the briefing, Minister Dlamini did not want to delve into the reasons for Dangor's departure.

"Mr Dango is well respected within the sectors of social development, I am not going to come here and discuss his issues. We are going to discuss them internally and take the process forward. I am not going to discuss anything about him", said Minister Dlamini.

Minister Dlamini also said that if Dangor wanted to make allegations and explain anything to the media, it was entirely his choice.

The Social development department has been embroiled in controversy over the social grants contract with Cash Paymaster Services -  even beyond a Constitutional court ruling in 2014, which ruled the contract irregular.

CPS has been responsible for delivering social grants to millions of people every month.

As the service provider's contract comes to an end, fears have been mounting that millions of grant recipients might not receive their money next month.

Minister Dlamini however gave the assurance that money will be paid out.

It was however not explained which method or services would be roped in to make this happen.

Labour federation COSATU has called on president Jacob Zuma to intervene.

COSATU called on the Minister to resign or be axed.
