Mkhwebane impeachment inquiry accuses Mpofu of delaying tactics
The Section 194 committee, which has been established to probe suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office, says it will not be derailed in its attempts to finalise proceedings.
Committee members have accused Advocate Dali Mpofu, who is Mkhwebane’s legal representative in the inquiry, of delaying tactics.
They claim that he wants to drag out the process until the end of Mkhwebane’s term of office in 2023.
The proceedings, which began this week, are expected to conclude by the end of September.
Chairperson Qubudile Dyantyi says the committee will fulfil its mandate within the specified time frame.

“The committee further agreed that it works within the rules of the National Assembly and will by all means attempt to fulfill the mandate given to it, within the timeframe set out in its terms of reference,” says Dyantyi.
“The committee is expected to finalise its work by the end of September 2022.”
Former South African Revenue Services (SARS) executive Johann van Loggerenberg is expected to conclude his testimony on Friday.
Thereafter, former SARS acting commissioner Ivan Pillay is expected to give testimony.
