Moja Love presenter Bishop Makamu granted bail in sexual assault case

The Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court granted Bishop Israel Makamu R2000 bail on Wednesday following a brief appearance on a charge of sexual assault.
Makamu was arrested earlier in the day after a former employee of his church laid a complaint of sexual assault on 19 May at the Brackendowns police station, near Alberton.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane says the case relates to an incident that allegedly happened in his church office in Alrode in September 2018.
“The case was remanded to 13 July 2021 for further investigations,” Mjonondwane adds.
Makamu came under fire recently when a viral recording of a conversation with alleged sexual connotations surfaced on social media.
He stepped down from his job in front of the camera on the Moja Love channel, pending investigations into his conduct.
In the widely circulated voice recording, he asks the young woman if she’s alone.
When she admits to being alone, he asks: “Will you give it to me?”
Makamu has publicly admitted to being the man behind the recording but denies the question was laced with sexual innuendo, claiming he was asking for the keys to the church.
