Protesters at Mooiplaas informal settlement in Pretoria West stoned police Nyalas on Monday afternoon, Gauteng police said.
Police were patrolling the area when protesters stoned their armoured vehicles, said Lt-Col Katlego Mogale.
The stoning of police vehicles comes after the R55 that connects Pretoria and Sandton was reopened after it was blocked with burning tyres and rocks in the morning.
"There are unconfirmed allegations that some shops in the area have been burned," Mogale added.
The protesters were meeting community leaders and officials of the Tshwane metro.
"Police are now monitoring the situation in the area. No arrests have been made yet," said Mogale.
The protest was believed to have been related to service delivery grievances.
