Mother in court for attempted murder
A 35-year-old woman appeared in the Vosloorus Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of attempted murder.
This comes after she allegedly abandoned her new-born baby.
Police spokesperson Captain Kabelo Marumo says: "It is alleged the women gave birth to a healthy baby girl during the evening of Friday 17 April and then put the child into a refuse bag and left her in the nearby bushes."
The baby was found by a member of a local community policing forum who witnessed suspicious behaviour and went to investigate.
Marumo says the member found the quiet baby in a refuse bag abandoned in the bushes.
The woman was released on bail and will appear in court after further investigation.
