Motorists flock to filling stations
Updated | By MornéJK
Motorists flocked to several filling stations in and around Gauteng the past weekend amid fears of a shortage of petrol and diesel, as the strike by workers Ceppwawu continues.
The strike kicked-off last week amid concern that fuel pumps might run dry.
It was reported the past weekend that striking workers prohibited independent transport companies to deliver fuel supplies to filling stations.
Wage talks with oil refineries and their distribution networks deadlocked last week with Ceppwawu calling for the strike.
The union was calling for a 9% wage increase over a period of one year with the employers only offering a 7% increase.
Meanwhile the department of energy announced last Friday that the price of all petrol grades is set to drop by 99 cents next week.

The department said diesel will also decrease by between 74 and 73 cents on Election Day.
This means South Africans will now pay 12 rand 35 cents a liter for unleaded petrol inland- and 11 rand 87 cents on the coast.
The decrease is mainly thanks to the strengthening rand.
