MPs to assess land claims offices
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
The visits by members of the portfolio committee on rural development and land reform were aimed at assessing government's readiness to administer claims since the re-opening of the second phase of the land claims lodgement process.
"The visit will afford members of the committee an opportunity to assess the government's implementation plans, capacity and turnaround time to administer the claims," the statement said.
The lodgement of land claims reopened on June 30 when President Jacob Zuma signed the Restitution of Land Rights Amendment Act into law.
It allows those who missed the December 31, 1998 deadline to bring claims until mid-2019.
MPs will start their oversight visits in Mowbray, Cape Town, on Wednesday.
