Mpumalanga homeless man killed in pizza dispute

Police are investigating the murder of a homeless man who was shot and killed in a disagreement over pizza on Saturday night in White River.

Police spokesperson, Selvy Mohlala says a 39-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder. 


"Police in White River heard a gunshot around 7 pm near the police station,” says Mohlala.  


“Whey then went to investigate, where they found a group of people on the road and a lifeless body of a man lying down. 


"They discovered that he was shot in the chest and hand by a man who was also on the scene. It is said that the victim allegedly asked for a pizza from the suspect who refused to give him. 


"Then the victim assaulted the suspect with a chain. It is further alleged that the suspect drew his firearm and shot him.”


Medical personnel were summoned to the scene, but the victim was certified dead.  


The suspect’s firearm as well as his firearm licence were confiscated for further investigation. 


He is expected to appear in White River Magistrate’s Court soon. 


The body of the homeless man, believed to be in his 40s, is yet to be identified.
