Police in Mpumalanga have opened two inquest dockets after two teenagers were found dead in their homes on Friday.

The deaths come a day after the release of the 2017 matric exam results.
The body of one teenager was found in his home in Schoemansdal, while the other was found in Waterval Boven.

The provincial police's Leonard Hlathi says in both cases preliminary report shows that the teenagers hanged themselves.
"We do not know the reasons behind their death, but we discovered that one of them failed matric and the other was not satisfied with his results. We don't know if their deaths are directly linked to the release of their results. We will investigate further."
The Department of Basic Education has encouraged pupils who have failed or are unhappy with their results to either take the issue up with the department or use the opportunity to repeat the year.
