Mpumalanga rapist to learn his fate

The Mpumalanga High Court is expected to sentence convicted rapist Henry Hlahla on Friday.

Hlahla was convicted on 86 charges in October.

He was found guilty on charges of rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, attempted murder, malicious damage to property, discharge of a firearm and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

 

Spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Mpumalanga Monica Nyuswa says Hlahla started terrorising the residents of Nkomazi in 2010.

 

Nyuswa says he would break into single-parent homes and rape the mothers in front of her kids.

"He would approach his victim from behind during late hours or early morning, threaten them with a knife or a gunpoint, take them to secluded areas rape them and would sometimes robbed them of their belongings.

 

"He would target single parents break into their houses and rape them in front of their families."

 

Nyuswa says Hlahla was nabbed for stealing a cellphone from one of his victims.

 

"In court, the state led evidence of several victims who identified Hlahla as a culprit and that of the investigating officers. Medical reports were also handed in."
