Nelson Shongwe, Sbusiso Mthethwa, Albert Mbondo, Albert Sibande and Nkosingiphile Gumede are accused of torching trucks in Mpumalanga.

At least 20 trucks have been torched in four provinces.

Trucks had been targeted in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng.

The men are facing charges of several counts of malicious damage to property, public violence and attempted murder.

During the court proceeding, defence advocate Siyabonga Jiyane told the court that the men are requesting medical care following the injuries they claim they sustained when police handled them.

"The message for your injuries will be sent to the police officers that you be taken for medical attention,” said Magistrate Luzile Msimango.

Accused number three sustained visible injuries, accused number two and four did not have any visible injuries and accused number three had visible injuries on his hands.

Magistrate Msimango remanded the men until next week Thursday for bail application.
