N4 crash claims 14 lives
A horror crash on the N4 between Mbombela and Malelane
claimed 14 lives on Friday evening.
Two trucks, one minibus and one sedan were involved in the fatal incident.
Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Joseph Mabuza, says one of the drivers lost control of the vehicle.
"He was disturbed, and his vehicle swerved into the other lane," says Mabuza.
Mabuza says all 14 people who lost their lives, were passengers in the 22-minibus seater.
"The driver of the sedan was injured, and one of the bus drivers was also injured. Eleven people were taken to the hospital."
He adds it is unclear what caused the crash, however, says eyewitnesses claim the sedan drove into oncoming traffic.
Mabuza says the highway has been reopened, but investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
