The man was shot dead in full view of his wife and daughter on Saturday.

Police say the man was busy replacing a tyre on his car on the side of the highway when three armed suspects overpowered and robbed him of his cell phone.

It's believed the flat tyre was caused by the suspects placing rocks on the road close to the R512 Randburg offramp

Police spokesperson Aafje Bothma says the 25-year-old man was shot in the head and died on the scene.

"His wife was shot in the hand and transported to hospital. The baby didn't sustain any injuries. An attempted murder and murder case was opened, and police are busy with the investigation.”

Police have launched a manhunt for the three suspects.
