NCape murder trial continues

The Griekwastad murder trial will continue in the Northern Cape High Court in Kimberley on Wednesday.

The trial of a 17-year-old youth accused of killing a farmer, his wife and daughter will continue in the Northern Cape High Court in Kimberley on Wednesday.
The teenager is accused of murdering farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christel, 43, and their daughter Marthella, 14.
They were shot dead on their farm on April 6, 2012.
The teenager faces additional charges of raping the daughter and of defeating the ends of justice.
On Tuesday, a DNA expert, a ballistics expert and a fingerprint expert gave evidence in the trial.
DNA expert Lieutenant Cicilia (SUBS: CORR) Janse van Rensburg said DNA tests were done on two firearms, various items of clothing worn by the victims and the accused, and police swabs.
The swabs were from the girl’s fingernails, the telephone in the farm house, the riempie chair in the living area, and blood stains in the Steenkamp’s kitchen.
Janse van Rensburg testified about DNA mixtures found on some items, such as the rifle and the revolver.
According to a ballistics expert, evidence indicated that several shots fired at the scene were fired from inside the house, Police ballistics expert Warrant Officer Nosamose Nhlapo testified that some of the damage to the kitchen door was caused by gunfire from inside the house in the direction of the back door.
