Nersa to probe Tshwane electricity tariffs
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) will be investigating the tariff increases which lobby group AfriForum claims the City of Tshwane implemented without thenecessary go-ahead.
AfriForum served court papers on the metro and Nersa over the increase, which came into effect in July 1.
However, the matter has been postponed indefinitely by the high court in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Nersa's Nomfundo Maseti says the regulator will launch probe in order to get to the bottom of the issue.
"We are concerned about the fact we hear that the City of Tshwane has implemented a tariff that is not approved by the regulator. So management will look into that and table it before us for a decision. So, as we speak, they are undertaking some inquiries to establish whether indeed there is that implementation and what is it that was actually implemented because that is another concern."
