New record daily infections as SA’s Covid-19 recovery rate drops below 80%

South Africa’s Covid-19 recovery rate continues to drop.

In the latest report by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, the country’s recovery rate sunk to 79.5 per cent.
Recoveries have been steadily declining for several days now, putting the number of people who have been cleared of the virus at 947 919.
Statistics show the greatest recoveries in Gauteng, followed by the Western Cape.
But both provinces are also among the top 3 regions with the highest active cases – KwaZulu-Natal taking the lead.
On Friday, the country recorded 21 980 new positive cases.
In the same 24-hour period, a high of 616 fatalities were also recorded.
“Regrettably, we report 616 more Covid-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 215, Free State 27, Gauteng 75, Kwa-Zulu Natal 72, Limpopo 11, Mpumalanga 11, North West 55, Northern Cape 4 and Western Cape 146 This brings the total deaths to 32 425,” Mkhize said.
