Newborn baby rescued from pit toilet

A baby boy left for dead has been rescued in Limpopo.
The Limpopo Health Department says the emergency service call centre received a call about a baby's cries coming from a pit toilet.
Provincial health spokesperson Thabiso Teffo says a newborn baby was found in a pit toilet and rescued in the Matlala Mangwai village.
The baby was rescued on Tuesday morning.

"After cleaning and checking the vital signs, the baby was found to be in good health.
"The baby has been transferred to the WF Knobel Hospital for observation," Teffo says.
