A grade 11 learner from Makapanstad in North West will face a charge of murder when he appears in the Temba Magistrates Court on Friday.
He was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stabbing a 7-year-old grade 1 pupil to death.
“The suspect was attacked by community members at the scene but police responded and rescued the 17-year-old suspect, who was taken to hospital for treatment and kept under police guard. He was later released and detained,” says police spokesperson, Adele Myburg.
She says a charge of premeditated murder is being investigated.

The Department of Basic Education says it’s alleged that the suspect was in a romantic relationship with the deceased sister.
“When the relationship broke down he then decided to revenge by going to sleep over in the toilet at the primary school where he attacked the child who then died from stab wounds. It’s actually ridiculous that a child would attack another because of issues around a romantic relationship, it’s just sick and disgusting. These are children who should be focusing on their school books,” says spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga.
