The National Student Financial Aid Scheme briefed media on the outcomes of the 2017 applications and decisions taken following the closing of applications.

The second phase of applications will be opened from the 9th to the 20th of January 2017 and NSFAS say they want to process and capture all applications by the time students begin university next year.
"All students that are on NSFAS financial aid will not be subjected to fee increases and therefore for us there is very little impact, come next year," CEO, Msulwa Daca says.
He also added that they decided to open a second phase of applications for financial aid in 2017 after taking various factors into consideration.
"Learners who are waiting for their matric results will be allowed to apply for financial aid a few days after receiving their matric results," he says.
NSFAS will also not be closing this festive season as they want to process all the applications that they have received for the 2017 academic year.
"We are extending our business hours and our call centre will be available to answer any questions that students might have," he says.
Daca confirmed that 233 470 applications have been received through manual forms that were handed in as well as online applications.
