NUM to march to Eskom headquarters on Saturday

Members of
the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) are set to march to Eskom’s Megawatt
Park headquarters in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The union is unhappy with several issues plaguing the embattled power utility.
“We will be embarking on a protest march to Eskom Head Office Megawatt Park tomorrow as part of a rolling programme of mass action directed to stopping the unbundling and privatisation of Eskom,” says NUM acting general secretary William Mabapa.
Mabapa says they are also calling for the disbandment of the Eskom board.
“One issue we are not happy with is the issue of load shedding. We strongly believe that load shedding is overdone, and it’s the failure of management to manage the process of electricity.
“Secondly we are marching because Eskom has (changed) the conditions of employment of our members and forcefully offered our members 1.5% without an agreement.
“We are going to demand the disbandment of the Eskom board, the resignation of the CEO, the resignation of the COO and the conditions of service of our members to be immediately reinstated.”
