Numsa to respond to Eskom's new wage offer on Tuesday

Numsa together with other trade unions was locked in long wage negotiations on Friday with the Eskom management at the Central Bargaining Forum (CBF). 

Earlier this week Eskom reportedly offered a 7% wage increase in an attempt to end the strike which Eskom has blamed for the implementation of stage 6 load shedding. 

However, the union has rejected the claims saying Eskom is using the strike as a scapegoat. 

Spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says they want an increase across the board for their members.

"We also want the issue of working conditions to be addressed, which affects workers at Eskom, especially field workers who are working near the power station plant,” she says.  

“Eskom management unilaterally took away certain allowances related to transport and other benefits has had a major impact on workers and is one of the core issues of the strike.  

"We deliberated for almost twelve hours and finally, Eskom made a wage offer with a proposed draft agreement. We are taking it to our members for a mandate. We have a duty to consult members first before we give a formal response to Eskom."
