Nupsaw pickets for improved health care wages
Updated | By JacarandaFM news
Members of the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (Nupsaw) picketed outside the offices of the Department of Health in Tshwane on Friday.
Nupsaw is demanding better salaries for community health care workers as they battle the outbreak of Covid-19.
The union’s Kagiso Makoe says these workers are more likely to contract Covid-19, as the Department of Health relies on them to trace potential Covid-19 contacts.
However, most of them only work on a part-time basis.
"We urgently demand the supply of suitable personal protective equipment, absorption of community heath workers into the department's permanent staff compliment of DPSA salary level 5 and Covid-19 danger allowance of R 2000 for them," says Makoe.
“Our line of the protest is an extensive national rolling mass action undertaken by community health workers in support of their reasonable and justifiable demands.”
