The Hawks have seized R2.5 million worth of gold-bearing material from illegal mining operations on the West Rand.

Law enforcement officials continued their crackdown on illegal mining operations in Krugersdorp and Randfontein on Tuesday.
The operations follow the gang rape of eight women, who were shooting a music video at one of the mine dumps in the area.
Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase says one suspect was shot dead after he drew a firearm.
