OUTA: Khosa leave of absence ‘step in right direction’ at NSFAS
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse says NSFAS board chair Ernest Khosa's leave of absence is a step in the right direction.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has confirmed Khoza will be stepping away from his role for 30 days after OUTA released a series of audio recordings implicating him, the SACP and Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande in alleged corruption and financial mismanagement at the scheme.
There have since been mounting calls for Khosa to resign and for President Cyril Ramaphosa to fire Nzimande.
OUTA's Advocate Stefanie Fick says the entire NSFAS board has been tainted and should also consider stepping down.
"We shared the information that we gathered in our investigation. They did an investigation previously to investigate the CEO who was fired. Hopefully they will go to a full extent to get impartial, objective people to investigate these allegations depending on what happens there, then they will take the necessary steps."
"The necessary steps include holding to account the people. This is also about ethical behaviour, ethical leadership, holding leadership to account."
