Parliament to take a decision on EFF disruptions

National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise has referred the report on the disruption and the physical removal of EFF MPs during Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan's budget vote to the Subcommittee on the Physical Removal of Members from the Chamber.

The Rules Committee has 10 working days to release their findings and decide the appropriate course of action.


 


Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo stressed that the mandate of the committee is not to a conduct disciplinary process against the MPs.


 


“When Members of Parliament are evicted, removed physically the presiding officer responsible must draft a report and submit it to the Speaker and she will then referred it to the subcommittee on the Physical Removals of Members from the Chambers.”

The red berets refused to allow Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to address MPs, branding him a constitutional delinquent following several findings against him by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.


 


The party stormed the podium where Gordhan was standing before security escorted them out.

“It is not a disciplinary process. Once the Rules Committee has considered the matter. It will then make a decision. It may decide to table the matter before the House or refer it to the appropriate committee for a disciplinary process,” said Mothapo.
