Sparrow is due to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate's Court today after taking to Facebook to describe black people who flock to the beach as monkeys.

She allegedly made the comment in reaction to litter being left on beaches after New Year's celebrations.

Here is an excerpt from her post -

"These monkeys that are allowed to be released on New Year's eve and New Year's day on to public beaches towns etc obviously have no education what so ever so to allow them loose is inviting huge dirt and troubles and discomfort to others."

Facing a charge of crimen injuria, Sparrow has already been found guilty of hate speech by the Equality Court and ordered to pay R150 000 to the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation.

Sunil Singh from Sunil Singh and Associates in Durban feels Sparrow could be required to do community service.

"If the court finds her guilty, the court will probably order her to do community service. Community service to the extent that she will assist people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and race groups - in order for her to understand exactly what she has done," he said.
