Petrol, diesel prices to drop considerably from Wednesday
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief as the price of
petrol and diesel will drop significantly in August.
The price of both grades of petrol will decrease by 99 cents a litre while diesel will drop by between 73 and 74 cents a litre from Wednesday.
Energy department spokesperson Robert Maake says the strengthening of the rand contributed to the drop in the fuel prices.
“The strengthening of the rand against the dollar contributed to between 25 and 26 cents per litre. The decrease in the price of petroleum products in the market was also in line with the decrease in the price of crude oil,” he says.
The fuel price announcement comes amid a strike in thepetroleum sector.
The planned strike primarily affects refineries and fuel depots across the county, but motorists have been warned of petrol pumps running dry as a result of the strike.
