Phaahla: NHI Bill to ‘revolutionise’ SA healthcare
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Health Minister Joe Phaahla has hailed the National Health Insurance bill as revolutionary.

Phaahla says he believes the contentious NHI will lay the foundation for better access to healthcare for everyone in the country.
"It is a major milestone. We believe that this lays the foundation for major reform which is needed in our country."
He addressed the media after the bill got the green light in the National Assembly.
It will now be tabled before the National Council of Provinces for concurrence, before being sent to President Cyril Ramaphosa to be signed into law.
Among other things, the bill will establish one pool of healthcare funding for private and public healthcare providers.
"Once the process is really functional where we can share and rationalise those resources people who have income will not have to spend anything close to hopefully half of what generally those of us who have income currently are spending on medical care."
