At least four people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a fuel tanker on the N12, the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety confirmed on Thursday.
The crash has been blamed on the thick morning mist between eMalahleni, stretching to Delmas and Ogies.
The department’s spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says the crash claimed the lives of at least four motorists.
"The four deceased were all occupants in one of the involved sedans. The number and the severity are not yet determined at this stage. The emergency personnel and law enforcement officers are at the scene, and the road is still closed.
"The multiple collisions include articulated trucks, sedans, and light delivery vehicles."
Mmusi once again urged motorists to reduce speed, increase following distance, and switch their headlights on when driving in misty conditions.
