Police to monitor Bushiri's church after protest
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Police will continue monitoring Nkomo road near the Pretoria Show Grounds in the west of the city after protestors took to the streets demanding that Malawian Prophet Shepherd Bushiri leave the country.
Protestors burned tyres and barricaded roads on Friday afternoon.
"The situation is calm and as the police we will be monitoring the area," says police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele.
The protests by community members come a week after the deaths of three women during an apparent stampede at the church.
"So far the protest is all about the incident which happened over the weekend and they wanted to have some answers from the officials of the church.
"The police have been deployed and we restored law and order by engaging with community members that the road must be opened," adds Makhubele.
Makhubele says the investigation into the three deaths is still ongoing.
"We are still investigating the circumstances and why the situation was handled in that way," he adds.
