Police officer killed in car accident

A police officer and a passenger have died in an accident on the corner of Pretorius and Gordon Street in Hatfield in the early hours of this morning. 

 

According to warrant officer Hero Gumbu, the officer lost control of the police van they were travelling in and smashed into a tree.

 

Gumbu also confirmed to JacarandaFM News that the passenger was not a member of the police force.

 

"At this stage a case negligent driving might be opened but I think it is a case of human error. The accident happened when the officer was on his way from dropping off a colleague who was not feeling well."
