Two police officers were shot and killed in the early hours of Thursday morning, during a shootout involving members of a team that included the HAWKS.

The team comprising of members from Crime Intelligence, the Hawks, the National Intervention Unit and others were conducting operations in the areas of Dalton, Greytown and Wartburg in KwaZulu-Natal.
National Police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says while driving in the area, the team flagged down an approaching police patrol van.
He says instead of stopping, shots were fired from the police van at their fellow law enforcers.
Both the male sergeant and a female constable in the patrol vehicle were killed during the shootout.
Naidoo says investigators found an angle grinder, jack hammer and ink-stained cash inside the patrol vehicle, with the suspicion that the two officers are linked to a robbery at the Dalton Post Office on Wednesday evening.
