PRASA to set the record straight

The Passenger Rail Association of South Africa (PRASA) will brief the media regarding reports its acting CEO, Collins Letsoalo insisted on a 350 % salary increase when he took over the reins at the entity.

The Sunday Times reported that Letsoalo insisted on the inflated salary increase as well as a chauffeur.


Meanwhile, the General Secretary of United National Transport Union, Steve Harris says if the allegations are true, it is very disturbing.


"We are perturbed and angry. If the allegations are true it is a catastrophe and a sad day for workers," he says.\

The union says PRASA offered their members a 3% salary increase, citing that the current economic climate as well as the financial woes of PRASA.


"How do you convince workers to accept the offer when an acting CEO allegedly gives himself a 350% increase - this is unacceptable," he says.

Harris adds that if they want to bring back stability to PRASA, management needs to bring realistic salary offers to the bargaining council.


The briefing will take place in Pretoria this morning.
