President Jacob Zuma's office insists there are no nefarious reasons as to why he has not yet appointed the SABC's new permanent board.

This comes amid new allegations by City Press, that the president is delaying the process to allow him to choose who to appoint in strategic executive posts, without any input from the board.

According to the newspaper, these include CFO, COO and CEO.

Instead, the Presidency claims the process has been extended to ensure the candidates are suited for the posts.

"The Broadcasting Act (Act no. 4 of 1999) enjoins the President as the Appointing Authority to ensure that persons recommended for appointment as members of the SABC Board, should meet certain requirements including citizenship and to have no criminal records," reads a statement by the Presidency.

"Past experience taught us that the Presidency should undertake due diligence despite the process followed in the National Assembly."

The statement adds, the candidates recommended for the posts by the National Assembly do however have the qualifications stated in their CVs.

While the Presidency says it understands the urgency of the matter, it requested space to finalise the matter.

The SABC's interim board's non-renewable six month term expired towards the end of September.
