Government's National Development Plan needs growth of 3.5% while the latest GDP figures came in at a mere 0.9% over the first 3 months of the year.
At the top of government's agenda is addressing current problems in the mining sector with various initiatives put in place to address labour issues and reassure foreign investors and mining shareholders.
According to President Zuma, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is in the process of discussing investor confidence across the globe while Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will host a series of meetings with unions AMCU, NUM and COSATU. This is in a bid to iron out fighting amongst union members which was pointed out as being the root of renewed violence in Marikana last month.
