Prince William and his wife Kate are "very pleased" to announce that they are expecting their second child, Kensington Palace said on Monday.

The prince's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II was said to be "delighted" at the news, which comes less than 14 months after the birth of the couple's first child, Prince George.

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, is said to be  "delighted by the happy news that they're expecting another baby."

Messages of congratulations have already begun pouring in, while family and close friends of Kate and William have expressed their excitement at the news. Prince George's little brother is set to be fourth in line for the throne, pushing Prince William down to fifth place.

The new baby will be titled Prince or Princess and there is already speculation as to the naming of the baby. Charles, Philip and Thomas are the most selected for a boy and Diana, Elizabeth, Mary and Victoria for a girl.

Bookmakers in the UK have already begun taking bets on whether the second baby will be a boy or a girl, with most bookies reckoning there is a higher chance of a second boy being born into the royal family. Prince William and Dutchess Kate's second child will be the Queen's great grandchild and great-great-grandchild to Queen Victoria.

And while the royals are celebrating, you can count on Twitter for a different reaction.
