Probe after woman's gender-based violence plea ignored by Atteridgeville police

Police are probing an incident where a woman who wanted to report an incident of gender-based violence (GBV) at the Atteridgeville police station was refused assistance by officers.

Lethabo Nontuthuko Mabena posted a video on Facebook, where a police officer said he doesn't need her service.
He also accused her of being drunk.
In her Facebook post, Mabena explained that she had gone to the police station after she was harassed by a bouncer.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says they were alerted of the incident on Saturday.
"Police have seen the video and the Gauteng provincial commissioner Elias Mawela directed that this matter be prioritised and the complainant be found and assisted and the SAPS officials involved must be taken.
"The investigation is underway to verify who was involved and if it is found that members were on duty on that day, action will be taken."
Makhubele says police have located Mabena is expected to meet with her on Wednesday.
