Protesters block Heidelberg Road in Joburg
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged motorists to make use of alternative routes amid Friday morning's protests in City Deep.
It is believed that the community is angry over prolonged power outages in the area.
This has led to a group taking to the streets and barricading roads with burning tires and rocks.
Affected roads include Impex Avenue and Mpumelelo Road.
Fihla has urged motorists to exercise caution and rather make use of alternative routes.
“Motorists are advised to avoid Impex Avenue and Mpumelelo Road and use the M2, Vickers Road, or N17 as alternative routes.
“The situation is still calm and officers have been deployed to the scene,” said Fihla.
