Nkosinathi Maluleke is a fourth year medical student and said the faculty is one of the most racist at the institution.

"You'll always have lower marks, especially in hospital where it is one person who gives you your mark. The person is always a white consultant or a white professor, so those people will always expose you to discrimination," he said.

Wits management, along with former leaders of the Black Students Society and the SRC, on Tuesday mediated negotiations between student groups to postpone the academic programme until Monday, 10 October.

Students across the country have vowed to close down campuses until their demand of free education for all is met.

The EFF Students Command also announced yesterday that they are planning a national shutdown last week.

Meanwhile, protesting Wits students said they want to ensure that there is an understanding that the medical campus is not an entity on its own.
