Public Order Police on standby as Alexandra residents plan to march to Sandton
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The South African Police Service (SAPS)'s Public Order Policing unit is on standby and monitoring a planned march by residents of Alexandra to Sandton.
The police's Brigadier Mathapelo Peters says no application for the march was received, but initial indications were that as many as 1,000 people were expected to participate.
However, by noon on Monday only about 100 people had gathered.
"We are not sure whether the number will increase or not, but police will remain in the area just to ensure that there are no incidents," said Peters.
