Public Works: Govt ministers also subjected to load shedding
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has denied reports claiming cabinet ministers living in Bryntirion Estate in Pretoria are not subjected to power cuts.
The statement by the department comes after numerous social media reports this week that allege that government ministers living the estate are exempted from load shedding, unlike millions of ordinary South Africans.
Spokesperson Sizwe Mchunu says ministers are subjected to the same load shedding schedule as everyone else.
The only ones not subjected to rolling blackouts are the president and deputy president.
“As for ministerial houses, they experience the effects of load shedding like everybody else in the neighbourhood as per municipality’s load shedding schedule.

“It should, however, be noted that in the City of Cape Town, only the president and deputy president’s house remain lit.”
South Africans have been subjected to the worst bout of load shedding since the start of the power cuts iin 2008.
Earlier this month, the country was plunged into darkness by Eskom when rolling blackouts went as high as stage 6.
The power utility has assured South Africans that load shedding should come to an end soon.
