Police in the Eastern Cape are investigating the alleged gang rape of a grade 8 pupil by three fellow pupils.
The alleged gang rape of a grade 8 pupil at Maria Louw High School in Queenstown has sent shock waves through the country.
The preparators, aged between 15 and 19 years, allegedly raped the minor girl at the school’s hostel in June.
“A case was opened with the local police station and the police, and the boys were arrested and released on bail,” says the Eastern Cape department of education’s spokesperson Mali Mima.
The grade 8 girl has been admitted to the Frontier hospital where she’s receiving medical care and counseling.
Mima says the department has also opened a case against the alleged perpetrators while disciplinary probes against the pupils are underway.
"We shall make sure that justice is served for the victim.”
