Ramaphosa made the remarks during his visit to Rabasotho community hall in Tembisa and Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on Thursday.

The president was accompanied by the Acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane and Gauteng Premier David Makhura.

"The numbers of vaccinations are going up," he said.

"This is happening throughout the country as the vaccination is underway and we are already in full steam when it comes to vaccination.

"They had a target of 250 000 and I gave them a stretch target of 300 000, I think we are doing very well, and we have a surplus of vaccine and what I have witnessed in Tembisa and here in Midrand is great work."

South Africa is expected to receive a donation of 5.6 million doses of Pfizer vaccine at the end of this month from the United States of America.
