Ramaphosa: Gordhan a man with integrity and commitment
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
President Cyril Ramaphosa says he appointed Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to a critical and demanding position in the cabinet because of his commitment and integrity.
Ramaphosa made the statement as he delivered his response to his budget vote debate at the National Assembly on Thursday.
"I can express a view on the character of minister Gordhan and the contribution he has made into the liberation of our country. He has endured and withstood extreme pressure both in the apartheid and democratic era. He has been under pressure to abandon principle and to forsake his responsibility to this nation."
Ramaphosa also spoke about how every person is equal before the law, amid the court battle between Gordhan and the Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
"If Gordhan or any member of this administration has anything to answer for, they must be held to account without exception, they must answer to the court."
